PhD Studentship in Computational / Predictive Toxicology

I am pleased to announce that a 3 year PhD studentship is available in the QSAR and Modelling Research Group at Liverpool John Moores University. The PhD is available in the general area of developing computational alternatives to animal testing in toxicology for the risk assessment of new and existing chemicals. The project is in collaboration with, and funded by, Lhasa Ltd. It should be of interest to any graduate with EU nationality and a good degree in any suitable biological, chemical, biochemical, toxicological or computational science, or a related field.

Research Positions in Portugal

Under the Portuguese government initiative Ciência 2007, the Instituto de Tecnologia Química e Biológica (ITQB) and the Instituto de Biologia Experimental e Tecnológica (IBET) wish to appoint up to 18 research scientists to conduct and support research associated with National Facilities and to develop strategic areas of research. Contracts will be held for five years subjected to yearly renewals.

 

Candidate profile: The candidates must hold a PhD, at least three years of scientific post-doctoral experience and a proven track record of publications.

 

Strengthening National Facilities: NMR Spectroscopy; Resonance Raman; Mass Spectrometry; Proteomics; X-ray structure of small and large molecules; GLP Laboratory; Pilot Plant

 

New Research Areas: Ionic Liquids for Chemical and Biological Processes; Membrane Proteins and Super Complexes; Computational Biology (Computational Genomics, Systems Biology); Animal Cell Technology; Functional analysis of transcription regulators in plants; Single-particle and single molecule analysis in biological systems; Chemistry of organic and inorganic biologically important compounds; Cell signaling in eukaryotes; Host- bacterial pathogen interactions.

Suitable qualified candidates from other areas in Chemistry, Life Sciences and associated technologies will also be considered.

PhD in Pisa: grants for foreign students

The "Galileo Galilei Ph.D. School" in Basic Sciences of the University of Pisa has opened a competition, based on academic qualifications, for 13 grants to attend a Ph.D. course in one of the following subjects: Chemistry, Physics, Applied Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science. The deadline is June 15, 2007.

The candidates must not be resident in Italy, and they must have obtained their Master degree and Secondary School qualification by non-italian institutions. All the courses are three years long, starting in January 2008. The grant will be of about 1000 euros/month. Extra money is available for stages abroad, connected with the thesis work, and to attend schools or conferences. The Galilei school invites every year several scientists to give short courses and seminars, especially addressed to the PhD students. More info about the G.
