On the occasion of the 50th anniversary, the ICCP has organised a conference that will address the current challenges of criminological research and new forms of crime. In addition, a new service, the "CrimLab", will be presented and the official closing of the 6th Edition of the Master's Degree in Criminology and Security will take place.

The University Research Institute of Criminology and Criminal Science of the Universitat de València (ICCP) is one of the most reputable in its field, with fifty years of history, being the second oldest institute in Spain, only behind the Institute of the same name at the Complutense University of Madrid.

To celebrate this 50th anniversary, a conference has been scheduled to bring together experts, professors and jurists related to the world of criminology to provide answers to the current challenges of criminological research and the new, increasingly complex forms of crime.

In addition, this celebration will host the official presentation of the "CrimLab", a new service that ICCP will launch in the coming weeks and that will function as a laboratory or specialized department. Likewise, the closing of the 6th Edition of the Master's Degree in Criminology and Security is also planned.

The opening of this conference, directed by Mª Asunción Colás, professor of Criminal Law and co-director of the Master's Degree in Criminology and Security, has been carried out by the Principal of the Universitat de València, Mª Vicenta Mestre, the General Secretary, Mª Elena Olmos, the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Javier Palao and José Luis González Cussac, professor of Criminal Law and director of the ICCP.

The Principal of the Universitat de València, Mª Vicenta Mestre said that "today is a day to be congratulated. Not all research institutes can celebrate fifty years of uninterrupted activity". She also wanted to thank all the people who have made this institute possible, from the researchers for their scientific and teaching activities to the technical and administrative staff and services.

José Luis Gonzáles explained that "the idea of creating a laboratory for criminalistic studies associated with our Institute arose from the need to provide support not only to legal professionals and administrations, but also to those individuals who, for one reason or another, need help. For example, in risk management in companies, building security, support to insurance companies, reinforcement of police reports of crimes or offences which, although not contradictory, could provide different views and even, why not, approaches to new hypotheses".
