Registration for the new official Master's degree in Integrative Synthetic Biology MISB, organised by the UIMP and the CSIC, will be open until 11 June 2021. The course will start in October 2021 and will involve researchers from different CSIC centres such as Centre for Biological Research (CIB), National Centre of Biotechnology (CNB) and the Institute for Integrative Systems Biology (I2SysBio). The MISB aims to study the basic principles of life –and its emergence from inert components– as well as the design of tools that enable innovative solutions to problems related to the environment or health.

The Master on Integrative Synthetic Biology (MISB) is a two-year advanced research school (120 ECTS), co-organised by UIMP and CSIC, to provide postgraduate students (from life sciences and physics and chemistry to computer science and engineering) with an integrated programme of training, research and innovation on Synthetic Biology in a cutting-edge scientific environment. The mission of MISB –the first postgraduate studies in synthetic biology in Spain– is to prepare the next generation of synthetic biologists equipped with new ways of exploring living systems: engineering to understand and design biological complexity.

Basic data:

  • 120 ECTS in 2 academic years.
  • 4 theoretical-practical academic modules (90 credits) and TFM (30 credits).
  • Maximum 20 students from undergraduate studies in Life Sciences, Chemistry, Physics, Engineering or Computer Science.
  • Online and face-to-face teaching, mostly in English.
  • Rotation in various laboratories before starting the TFM.
