For fifteen years, the School of Biological Sciences of the University of Valencia has been developing an agreement with Iowa State University (ISU) that allows hosting a group of biology students from ISU in its laboratories for a month.

This year, six students have collaborated with various research groups, including Elianies Segarra, who has joined the Metabolic Systems Engineering group at the Institute for Integrative Systems Biology I2SysBio and has been supervised by Alba Arévalo. The students, accompanied by the director of the programme at ISU Moe Gupta, were received on 5 June by the Dean Ismael Mingarro and the Vice-Dean Carmen Agustín-Pavón, together with the tutors of the host laboratories. For a month, they have become familiar with laboratory techniques and procedures while following their educational and cultural activities at the University of Valencia. Another group of students have participated in parallel in the programme of activities, talks and excursions, "Valencia as a Biology Lab", given by staff from the Faculty and the Cavanilles Institute. The students presented their experimental results in a session on Monday 8 July, before the return trip. In this session, Professor Gupta expressed his gratitude and satisfaction for the development of the stay and Dean Mingarro and Vice-Dean Agustín-Pavón expressed their wishes for the continuity of this enriching collaboration with ISU.
