FocScales: Fire and Biodiversity at different scalesFoc i biodiversitat a diferents escales / Fuego y biodiversidad a diferentes escalas |
FocScales is a project funded by the Generalitat Valenciana (Prometeo/2021/040; 2021-2024)
FocScales includes a coordinator from CIDE (Valencia), and a team of researchers from Universitat de Valencia, Estación Biológica de Doñana (EBD, CSIC, Sevilla), Real Jardín Botánico (RJB, CSIC, Madrid), and Universidad de Cádiz
FocScales suggests that a proportion of the Mediterranean biodiversity is shaped by fires, and that this effect can be observed at a range of ecological and evolutionary scales
FocScales proposes that fires affect plant diversity by promoting species divergence events (macroevolutionary scale), contributing to the assembly of communities (community scale), increasing genetic differentiation (population scale), and inducing epigenetic variability (individual scale).
