The 1st international congress on the right to health, the elderly and personal autonomy was held on 19 December 2023 at the University of Alacant.
The event was attended by leading experts and academics who addressed relevant topics such as the ageing of society, the vulnerability of older people and informed consent. During the congress, general and specific aspects of informed consent in older people were discussed, as well as issues related to dignity, autonomy and human rights in this context.
Fabiola Meco Tébar, representing the UV’s DyPM Research Group, emphasised the group’s dedication to addressing critical issues affecting the well-being and protection of older people. The programme comprised morning and afternoon conferences, with presentations delivered by professionals from various national and international universities. The event concluded at 19:30 and was live streamed. It was organised by the University of Alacant and the International Center for Aging Research (ICAR), with the collaboration of the Research Chair in Notarial Law of the University of Alacant, among other institutions.
The event was held within the context of research projects conducted by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation, which addressed legal and civil challenges related to the protection of older people. Experts in civil law, sociology, bioethics and other disciplines contributed to an academic space that facilitated debate and reflection on issues of crucial importance to the well-being and rights of older people.
