Ana Muñoz Miquel will offer next Thursday 11 May the talk about medical translation called “When I grow up, I want to be a medical translator”.

The Assembly Hall of the Faculty of Language Studies, Translation and Communication will house next Thursday 11 May the talk called When I grow up, I want to be a medical translator. Ana Muñoz Miquel, member of CiTrans, will offer this talk, which will start at 12:00 hours.

Ana Muñoz Miquel graduated in Translation and Interpretation at the University of Miguel Hernández and she also did the Master’s Degree in Medical and Healthcare Translation at the Universitat Jaume I. She defended her doctoral thesis about medical translation in 2014. Furthermore, she has work as an freelance translator and she has given lessons of translation and languages for specific purposes, in both degree and official masters at the Universitat de València, the Universidad Europea de Valencia and the Universitat Jaume I.

She currently works as a researcher in the Gentt group of the Universitat Jaume I and she teaches scientific translation and medical translation in the Degree in Translation and Interpretation and the Master’s Degree in Medical and Healthcare Translation. Among her major lines of research it can be highlighted the medical translation, the didactics of translation and the textual genres of the medical-healthcare field.

For Ana Muñoz Miquel, medical translation is an essential activity in order to develop medical communication and knowledge. That is why this kind of translation offers several employment possibilities and, because of its characteristic, it requires professionals specifically trained for it. However, it is a field which has hardly has backup of university education and research.
