3 new professional accreditations for psychologists

The Consejo General de la Psicología de España (COP) has been working for years in the implantation of professional and training accreditations, with the aim of guaranteeing minimum quality standards for psychologists from different specialties and areas of Psychology.

5 july 2017

In order to achieve this goal, the COP has published three new professional accreditations that join the existing ones:

Expert psychologist in Emergency and Disaster Psychology: this certification has two main goals. On one hand, it will make it possible to guarantee that those services provided to society have high quality, ensuring professionals to count with the needed training to carry out specific functions of an Emergency professional psychologist. On the other hand, it will serve to establish the bases for a future official recognition of the Speciality, since the established criteria are the same in terms of time and quality than the ones for the training in other already recognised specialties, such as expert psychologist in Clinical Psychology, as set out in the Libro Blanco de las Profesiones Sanitarias (2013).

Expert psychologist in Aeronautic Psychology: the need to ensure the safety and health as a social value and the right of passengers to fly safely, as well as the need to protect the professional interest of qualified psychologist in Aviation Psychology, demand the development of quality professional services. Therefore this National Accreditation has been set out, as a quality mark that can be accessed only by those psychologists who have both the necessary training and experience and the proper competence development for answering the different demands that can appear during the professional activity.

Through this procedure, trained psychologists with experience in the mentioned fields will get a certification from a chartered institute guaranteeing their professional quality. Likely, the criteria required in the previous 3 accreditations will serve to:

  1. Identify clearly those professionals of Psychology that carry out their activity in the corresponding area.
  2. Guarantee the quality of the service offered to society under the corresponding label.
  3. Distinguish the discipline from other close disciplines.
  4. Guide training.
  5. Homogenize the professional activity in the whole national territory.
  6. Ease the future administrative recognition of the specialty in the intervention in all three fields.

All the people interested in apply for these national accreditations can access the available information at COP’s Website.
