The Microsoft University of Valencia Chair on Privacy and Digital Transformation has organised a seminar, Healthcare Research: A Transatlantic and trans-European Dialogue, on November 23, in which it will analyse the regulatory challenges of health systems in Europe and the United States in data protection, Big Data techniques or artificial intelligence. The event, in English, can be followed live at the European Commission Offices in Madrid, or online.

In both Europe and the United States, any citizen should be able to benefit from advances in healthcare and medical research in a lasting way, as demanded by the scientific community, regulatory bodies and patient organisations. This model would enable medical advances and the use of data in health and biomedical research in Europe and the United States. One example has been the response to the pandemic, in which research on COVID-19 has shown the importance of sharing data.

Specialists from both sides of the Atlantic will participate in the event organized by the Microsoft-University of Valencia Chair of Privacy and Digital Transformation, who will address the challenges and opportunities of health systems in data exchange models. These are not limited to the regulation of data protection, but involve a broader discourse that includes solutions that allow the responsible use of Big Data and artificial intelligence techniques in the health sector in order to improve prevention, diagnosis and the treatment of diseases.

To attend the event, at the offices of the European Commission in Madrid between 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., it is necessary to email cmicrosoft@uv.es to confirm attendance in person in the assembly hall (presence on site will be subject to availability and will be offered for the first registration). You can also attend the event online by sending a message to the same email address or registering on the event page.

Participating in the presentation of the event will be Mª Dolores Real García, Vice-Rector for Innovation and Transfer of the University of Valencia; Ricard Martínez, director of the Microsoft University of Valencia Chair on Privacy and Digital Transformation and Mar España Martí, director of the Data Protection Office.
