Congress

The event will take place on 16 and 17 June. It returns after two years due to the limitations imposed by Covid.

The conference is organised by the Spanish Professional Privacy Association (APEP) and will include among its speakers Professor Ricard Martínez M., director of the Privacy and Digital Transformation Chair Microsoft-Universitat de València.

Martínez will participate on Thursday 16 at 16:30 in the round table: Data processing in health research. He will share the session with Jesús Rubí, Coordinating Member of the Support and Institutional Relations Unit of the Spanish Data Protection Agency (AEPD); Lluís Sabaté, Member of the Office of the Health Data Protection Delegate of the Generalitat de Catalunya (Fundació TIC Salut i Social); Julián Isla, Founder of Fundación 29 de Febrero; and Joaquín Cañada, Data Protection Delegate of the Generalitat Valenciana. The round table will be moderated by Eduard Blasi, 3rd Vice-President of APEP.

Data processing in health research is one of the main topics addressed by this Chair. In his recent lectures and communications, Martínez has emphasised the need to harmonise a robust data protection scheme with the need for researchers to access data to produce knowledge for the benefit of public health.

In this regard, at the end of May, at the international congress GDPR Requirements for Biobanking Activities Across Europe organised by the Universidad degli Studi di Perugia and the Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche of Italy, the academic gave a presentation on European data protection regulations applicable to health research. It emerged that efforts are focused on strengthening the security and applicability of anonymisation and pseudo-anonymisation methods.

Information and registration for the 8th APEP International Privacy Congress can be found on the APEP website.
