FLUORESCENT TRANSGENIC MICE

FLUORESCENCE IN INTERNEURONS

FVB-Tg(GadGFP)45704Swn/J: Green fluorescent protein (GFP) is expressed under the promotor of Gad1 (glutamic acid decarboxylase 1) mouse gene. Transgene expression occurs in a specific subpopulation of hippocampal and neocortical GABAergic interneurons that mainly express somatostatin.

CB6-Tg(Gad1-EGFP)G42Zjh/J: Enhanced green fluorescent protein (EGFP) is expressed under the promotor of Gad1 (glutamic acid decarboxylase 1) mouse gen. Transgene expression occurs in parvalbumin-expressing subclass of basket interneurons (soma, dendrites, and axons) and putative presynaptic boutons.

FLUORESCENCE IN PYRAMIDAL NEURONS

B6.Cg-Tg(Thy1-YFP)16Jrs/J: Yellow fluorescent protein (YFP) is expressed under the promotor of Thy1 (thymus cell antigen 1) mouse gen. Highlevels of expressionoccur  in glutamatergic neurons. Axons are brightly fluorescent all the way to the terminals. No expression is detectable in non-neural cells.

B6.Cg-Tg(Thy1-CFP)23Jrs/J: This strain is very similar to that shown above (same promoter) with the only difference that the transgene is CPF (Cyan Fluorescent Protein).
