Presentation and objectives
On the occasion of the 500th anniversary of the University of Valencia and as a result of the success obtained in the previous editions held in Valencia in september of 1992, 1994 and 1996, the University of Valencia General Foundation and the Valencian Government organize once again the International Festival of University Choirs (FICU 2000) which will take place in Palau de la Música of Valencia (Spain) in September 2000.
The aim of FICU 2000 is to spread choral music coming from university no professional spheres, where it has had and has a great tradition. We intend the University of Valencia, and the city of Valencia by extension, to be the meeting point for more than 1000 university choralists from all over the world. This initiative intends to be a musical union and a common among them, similar to other meetings of this character that have been held before in New York, Manila, Rome...
Besides, we would like the festival to be one way to bring university music nearer to our territory. Thats the reason why, though the festival has its headquarters in Valencia, this one will be shared with other villages of the Valencian Community, allowing them to enjoy the choral music, with the aim of promoting and spreading it.
Organization
The FICU 2000 is organized by the University of Valencia General Foundation (Musical Activities Department) and the Valencian Government (Valencian Music Institute and the General Direction of Universities) in collaboration with the Santander Central Hispano Bank. The host choir is the Valencia University Choir and the musical conductor will be José Ramón Gil Tárrega.
Dates and place
The FICU 2000 will be held in Valencia (Spain) from 18th to 23rd September 2000, including a tour of concerts in the most important towns of the Valencian Community. The headquarters of the FICU 2000 will be the Palau de la Música de Valencia, a modern auditorium where the most prestigious groups and soloists of all over the world often perform.
