JOHAN DUIJCK

 

Johan Duijck shows great artistic attributes in his task as choir conductor, composer, pianist and pedagogue. In 1997 he was appointed as main conductor of the Flandes Radio Choir (Belgium).

Since 1998 Johan Duijck is the associated conductor of the Spanish Radio Television Choir in Madrid (Spain). In 1994 he founded the "European Youth Choir" by order of the Young Choirs European Federation (Europa Cantat), whose members are selected among young singers of 30 countries. Since the age of 18, he conductes the "Madrigal de Gante" Choir (Belgium), Flandes cultural ambassador. He takes part frequently in international choral festivals as a guest conductor, member of the jury and lecturer.

As a composer, Johan Duijck shows predilection for the piano and the choral music. He has been awarded with the "European Youth Festival" (Neerpelt), Flandes Composition and EPTA (European Piano Teachers Association) Prizes. His cantatas "Alma de la música" and "Cantate Domino Canticum Novum" have been internationally highly recognized.

As a piano player, he has offered numerous recitals and, as a member of the "Hans Memling Trio" he performs chamber music concerts. He has been awarded with the "Günther", "Pro Civitate", "Tenuto", "Ollin" and "Lefranc" prizes. Johan Duijck carries out his pedagogical task at the "Royal College of Music" (Belgium), "Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel" (Belgium), "Euskalerriko Abesbatzen Elkartea" (Spain) and the "Dartington International Summer School" (Great Britain).

His most important teachers have been Peter Cabus (composition), Robert Steyaert (piano) and László Heltay (conducting). He won the "Haec Olim" prize in recognition of his musical abilities.
