Exhibitions Director at Paleontological Research Institution
The Paleontological
Research Institution (PRI), a collections and research facility
in Ithaca, New York, is seeking a highly qualified individual to
shape the long-term exhibition program of the new Museum of the
Earth, scheduled to open in June, 2001. The new Museum will tell
the story of the history of the Earth and its life, using the
extraordinary natural history of the Finger Lakes region of New
York State, as well as PRI's world-class collections, as its base
of examples. The Exhibitions Director will plan, execute, and
manage all exhibition-related activities of the Institution.
Responsibilities include conceptualization of exhibits;
supervision of design, fabrication, installation, and maintenance
of exhibits; management of traveling and satellite exhibit
programs; and development and management of budget and
scheduling. Ideal candidate will have 5 or more years experience
in museums, with a majority in science and/or natural history
institutions; demonstrated creative ability; significant
experience in exhibit design, development, and installation;
proven managerial skills and track record of working with outside
consultants and designers; and an energetic, entrepreneurial
spirit. BS required, MS preferred.

Senior Scientist
COLBY COLLEGE (Maine, U.S.A.) seeks its a senior scientist as the first endowed associate or full professor in the Department, beginning September 1, 1999. The successful candidate will also serve as Chair of the department for a 3- or 6-year term.
Applicants for this position should be established scientists with a reputation for excellence in both teaching and research. Areas of expertise are open, but include paleontology, sedimentology/stratigraphy, structural geology, or hydrogeology and environmental geology; expertise in two or more of these fields will strengthen an application. The department plans to launch a search for a fourth, tenure-track person in autumn, 1999, under the leadership of the new chair.
