HISTORY OF THE " FILAES "
The consolidation of the groups of festeros in ' filaes'
takes place in 1786 because it increases the number of paritipantes in
the Celebration. The Asociacio' de Sant Jordi in charge to foment the
cult to the Pattern, to guard by its temple and to organize every year
the celebrations in its honor, is disintegrated thus in nuclei with a
certain autonomy. Thus they are born ' filaes' of the Side Moor and
the Christian, with a distinguishing suit, a seat, ' filà ', and
independent economically. The objective of ' filà ' was to group the
friends to participate together in the Celebration.
They are many " filaes " that, throughout the centuries has
been appearing and disappearing until being formed side so both and as
we know them today: Cavalry of Sequetes, Students, Chaplains, Angels,
Old English..., many of them with indumentaria very moved away of
which the contenders used who delegated the villa of Alcoy.
Before the amount of " filaes " which they were created was
necessary to establish a turn by antiquity, and, as of 1844 the
obligatory performance became obligatory of the positions of Captain

In the Side Moor " filaes " are 14: Trowel, Jews, Domingo
Miques, Chano, Green, Magenta, Cord, Light, Mude'jares, Abencerrajes,
Marrakesh, Realists, Berberiscos and Benimerines.
In the Christian Side filaes are also 14: Andalusians,
Asturian, Cides, Farmers, Guzmanes, Basoues,
Moza'rabes, Almoga'vares, Navarrese, Tomasinas, Mountain dwellers,
Crossed, Alcodianos and Aragoneses.
Within " filaes ", in which some of their members are
registered when being born by their parents, the presence of the woman
always has been very striped. The women even tenian prohibited the
access to the premises of ' filà '. In this the woman completes half

The celebration of Moors and Christians is celebrated in
