High precision astrometry

Global astrometric analysis of the complete S5 polar cap sample (Martí-Vidal et al., A&A, 478, 267, 2008), which marks a technical  milestone.
Detection of the first low-mass companion to a radio star by astrometric methods (Guirado et al., ApJ, 490, 835, 1997) and subsequent detection in the infrared (Close et al., Nature, 433, 286, 2005). It was the first calibration of the mass-luminosity ratio for young low-mass objects
Morphologic study for a complete sample of extragalactic radio sources (Pérez-Torres et al. A&A, 360, 161, 2004).
Demonstration of the possibility to perform high precision differential astrometry in VLBI observations of high resolution, with millimeter wavelengths (Guirado et al., A&A, 353, L37, 2000), and space antennas, using the Japanese satellite HALCA from the VSOP project (Guirado et al., A&A, 371, 766, 2001).
