In its first years of existence it has been financed by the Ministry of Science and Innovation. One of the objectives of the network is to promote the dissemination of the results of scientific research and to provide technicians and managers with information that will enable them to improve forest management.
This is a project that aims to review the scientific knowledge developed to date, and to discuss and agree on the future evolution of scientific research into the effects of forest fires on soils.
At present, the network is made up of almost 300 members, researchers from more than 30 universities and research centres throughout Spain, who bring the experience of decades of scientific and technical work in areas affected by forest fires, as well as prominent foreign researchers from countries such as Australia, the United States, Portugal, Australia, Lithuania, the United Kingdom and others. Among its members, managers and technicians from various institutions are also visible.The research group is made up of the most relevant names in Spanish science in the area, as well as young talents, who are currently developing the most innovative lines of research, in addition to some of the most prestigious international researchers.
Several international congresses, the pubblication of several books and a quarterly bulletin (FLAMMA) are initiatives that have led, among other things, to an increase in the exchange of information, ideas and also personnel between Spanish research groups. The next challenge is to promote interaction between the scientific and forest management worlds.
