The UIPD takes part in the 15th National Congress on Physical Activity and Sport and the 1st International Meeting on Mental Training

The 15th National Congress on Physical Activity and Sport and the 1st International Meeting on Mental Training took place from 30 March to 2 April 2016 in the facilities of the Polytechnic City of Innovation of the Universitat Politècnica de Valencia and the UIPD took part in different events.

The symposium “Quantitative methods for our future studies in Sport Psychology”, coordinated by professor Carme Viladrich of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, was held the evening of Thursday, 31 March. Researchers from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and the University of Extremadura took part in the symposium, in which our doctoral student Priscila Fabra participated as well. The UIPD presented a work carried out by Priscila Fabra together with Dr Inés Tomás and Dr Isabel Balaguer, which exemplified the application of a latent growth curve model to predict the intention to continue playing football in youth football players during two consecutive seasons.

Dr Luis Ródenas presented a work carried out along with other members of the UIPD (Dr Isabel Castillo, Dr Juan Mercé and Dr Isabel Balaguer) and Mexican colleagues from the UANL (Dr José Tristán and Dr Jeanette López-Walle) in the morning session on Friday, 1 April. The talk, “Relations between motivational climate, motivation and cohesion in players of youth football”, is part of the European project PAPA (http://www.projectpapa.co.uk). This study presents the relations between said variables and points the way to follow in the work to be done with the coaches.

On the same Friday, in the evening session, Dr Lorena González participated in the expert panel titled “The positive approach in sports with young people”, coordinated by Dr Jaume Cruz from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Her intervention was on the training programme for coaches “Empowering CoachingTM”. During her talk, Dr Gonzalez presented the main characteristics of the Empowering CoachingTM programme, some of the main results obtained in the PAPA project in which this programme was applied and the future Empowering CoachingTM action lines. The topic was well-received by the audience, which took advantage of the round of questions to go deeper into some aspects of the programme and ask about future training possibilities in different contexts.

Our research group also participated in the congress with a poster titled Female football and basketball players: Comparative study of perception iof their sport environment. This project was led by Paula Muiños and different members and collaborators of the UIPD took part in it.

The congress attendees could access all the posters via touchscreens spread throughout the main hall of the congress. See previous picture as an example.

During the congress, it was possible to attend interesting talks by specialists of national and international level in the field of Physical Activity and Sport Psychology. It had, as well, the participation of congress speakers from all over Spain and several Latin American countries. Aside from enjoying the scientific activities, the attendees could visit beautiful places in the enchanting city of Valencia.
