Presentation of the project

Antibiotic misuse is a public health problem due to the appearance of resistant strains in almost all human pathogens, making infectious diseases more difficult to treat. The search for solutions requires the development of new antimicrobials as well as novel strategies, including increasing social awareness of the problem.

Students and professors from the Biology degree at the Universitat de València (UV) prepared several infographics with information on the antibiotic crisis, antimicrobial resistance, and superbugs and established teaching relationships among them, creating a cross-linked system to shape them as an exhibition.

Our objective would be to continue expanding the project in different universities of the Forthem Alliance (and other institutions). In this way, the constitution of different nodes capable of transmitting the current situation in their respective environments would be possible.

The antibiotic crisis that we are currently suffering requires awareness and transmission capacity to other colleagues, younger students, friends and family, and in general to the entire European and world society.

Therefore, our main goal is to raise awareness on the huge health threat that superbugs, bacteria multi resistant to antimicrobials, currently represent. The exhibition will contribute to the understanding of the bacterial resistance to antibiotics by high school students (pre university levels) as well to become aware of their responsible use. Additional objectives of the project are to connect different educational levels with society as well as to increase interest in science by participants.
