Lucía Bellés-Calvera publishes an article in ESP Today on the use of XR-inspired scenarios to develop intercultural competence in tourism.

Lucía Bellés-Calvera has recently published a new research article in the international journal ESP Today, a leading publication in the field of English for Specific Purposes (ESP).

The article, entitled Intercultural Training through XR-Inspired Scenarios in ESP for Tourism, explores the development of intercultural communicative competence among Tourism students through the use of extended reality (XR)-inspired scenarios in ESP classrooms.

The study presents a digital escape room designed with Genially and based on authentic intercultural situations related to the tourism industry. Using a mixed-methods approach, the research examines how immersive and gamified experiences can enhance students’ intercultural sensitivity, pragmatic competence, and confidence in cross-cultural communication.

This publication contributes to current research on educational innovation and emerging technologies in language teaching, while offering a transferable model for other ESP and higher education contexts.
