Invitación a la presentación
Presentation of the book “Anticatalanismo y transición política” in Valencia

On Thursday, September 23rd at 7:30 p.m., the book Anticatalanismo y transición política. Los orígenes del conflicto valenciano (1976-1982) is presented at Valencia’s Libreria Primado. The event will feature Juan Luis Sancho Lluna, writer, UV doctor in History and author of the book; and Miguel Ángel Piqueras Rambla, economist and ex-manager of San Pío V museum.

The pages dedicated to the Transición valenciana (Valencian Transition) are innumerable. From the essay, journalism, politics and sociology area, we were offered the story in an identitarian manner; but the book in question doesn’t share the same goal, as it’s about history. Anti-Catalanism proved to be a formidable political weapon that made the Valencian right-wing gain the advantage. In a historical juncture such as the transition to democracy, it managed to agglutinate wide traditional social sectors -sociological Francoism-, supporting a whole grass-root, fundamentalist and reactionary movement against the political change led by the left-wing that had won the first democratic elections in 1977, as well as the legislative and municipal ones in 1979. Conflict erupted because of the active role they played in the reaction field of wide social grass-root layers, managing to create a climate of tension and violence which shook citizen life, all a “kale borroka” against democratic political parties instigated since the institutions of the late Francoism and the government of the UDC. Thus, the objective is to establish the historical political and social reasons behind the origin of this conflict.
