'Extreme Mediterranean rainfall. AVAMET, a ket network'

The first of the lectures in this series will take place on Wednesday 13th October at 7 p.m. and will be entitled "Extreme Mediterranean rainfall: the 1987 episode. AVAMET, a key network in meteorological management”. In this first speech, Armengot plans to analyse the heavy rain incidents that provoke sudden floods usually in the Mediterranean territory, specifically in the regions of La Marina and La Safor and, every time, are harder to forecast given the weather uniqueness of the region. Furthermore, it will focus on the floods of 1987 which specially affected Oliva and Gandia, towns that registered more than 800 mm of rain in 24 hours.

The lecture of Rafael Armengot is the first one of the “Enviromental Thought and Action for Climate” series that will occur along the 2021-2022 academic year. The aim of this initiative, which was already held last academic year, is to encourage critical thought and reflection on ecology and socionatural relations, as well as to address the main problems, conflicts and challenges the region of La Safor and its neighbouring territories face. All the lectures and round tables are free of charge and can be followed both on-site and virtually.

The reservation of places in order to attend Rafael Armengot’s lecture, either on-site or online, must be done through the following link: https://ir.uv.es/uvgandia/Armengot
