Multitud en una playa en un momento clave del exilio republicano español
A trap in the Mediterranean between Gandia and Alicante in March 39
Face-to-face

This conference is a part of Alumni Comparteix Program, a knowledge exchange project among former students.

The proposal integrates several cultural activities to Gandia. The meeting point will be at the Cercanía Station, from where we will move to the Palacio Ducal de Borja to enjoy a guided tour. Next, we will visit the Municipal Archaeological Museum. After the lunch break, the day will continue at the University of Gandia with a lecture by Eladi Mainar.

The conference analyzes the events from the last weeks of the Civil War, where thousands of republicans were desperately seeking a way out in the face of Francoist advance. We will analyze the contrast of those days: from the escape that was possible for hundreds of privileged people of the port of Gandia, until the tragedy of Alicante, where thousands of refugees were trapped with no escape, doomed to the fierce of the victors.
