The Web Ranking (Webometrics) of universities is an initiative of the CSIC’s Cybermetrics Lab research group that analyses 11,987 entities. According to the latest update, today, Wednesday, the University of Valencia (UV) improves one position and is already the third Spanish higher education centre, in addition to the first Valencian one. Internationally it climbs to world position number 192 (215 in 2020) and in Europe it advances 9 positions, to place 61.

The Ranking Web (Webometrics) of universities has been published since 2004 a couple of times a year, in January and at the end of July. The indicators with the most weight in this classification are impact / visibility (50% of the total score), which measures the number of external networks with backlinks or links from other websites on the pages of each institution, and excellence (35%), which quantifies the number of academic articles from each centre published in high-impact international journals among the most cited top 10%.

By indicators, in openness / transparency (number of researcher citations, according to Google Scholar Citations), the University of Valencia is ranked 192 in the world (up 24 positions compared to 2020). In excellence, the first Valencian university centre improves three positions and reaches number 224. For its part, in impact / visibility, the UV advances 54 places, reaching position 254 in the world.

According to the July update of this year, at the Spanish level the first places in Webometrics are occupied by the universities of Barcelona, Autonomous of Barcelona, and of Valencia. On a global scale, the ranking is led by the universities of Washington, Cornell and Johns Hopkins; while in Europe the Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule ETH Zurich, and the universities of Edinburgh and Utrecht lead this ranking.
