The University of Valencia (UV) has improved one place compared to January 2023, and is already third in Spain in the Webometrics Ranking of World Universities, a classification of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) that measures the web presence and visibility of institutions. The institution, in addition, is first in the Valencian Community, and improves 16 places in the world classification, reaching position 188, among 11,991 centres.
The Webometrics ranking is an initiative of the Cybermetrics Lab, a CSIC research group that has published this ranking twice a year since 2004.
In terms of indicators, the University of Valencia improves in all of them compared to 2003. Thus, in Excellence (number of academic articles published in high-impact international journals included among the 10% most cited in the respective disciplines), the UV climbs to the world position 206, while in July 2023 it occupied the world position 231.
In another indicator, Impact and Visibility (number of backlinks or external networks with links pointing to the University of Valencia), the institution improves its positions in the international sphere and ranks 259 (from 270 last July and 281 in January 2023).
In Openness/Transparency, an indicator that measures the number of citations by the main authors of each institution, according to Google Scholar Citations, the University improves seven places on an international scale, and goes from the world position 186 last July to 179 in 2024.
In the Spanish university system as a whole, the UV is surpassed only by the University of Barcelona and the Complutense University of Madrid, while at European level it ranks 57th, 8 positions better than in July 2023. On an international scale, the Webometrics is led by Harvard and Stanford Universities, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
