The University of Valencia (UV) has improved in all the indicators of the Times Higher Education (THE) ranking of universities, an international classification of 1,662 centres based on teaching, research, scientific citations, international perspective, reputation and market income. In addition, the institution leads the ranking in the Valencian Community (world range 401-500), by 801 to 1,000 in the case of the following Valencian centre.

The Times Higher Education has an institutional version that has just been updated, another one by subject, one on teaching and a fourth one focused on the achievement of 17 of the Sustainable Development goals of the United Nations Organisation (UN). This ranking, founded in 2004, is produced by the English magazine Times Higher Education, focused on teaching.

In the institutional version of the THE, the University of Valencia has advanced compared to 2020 in all the indicators measured, so that at the global level the score goes from the range 39.8-43.5 to 40.9-44. In addition, the increase in universities classified in this ranking must be taken into account, which goes from 1,527 in 2020 to 1,662 this year. Thus, the UV is in the 6-8 range in Spain, which it shares with the Ramon Llull and Vic universities (6-7 in 2020); in the European 192-242 range (192-246 last year) and maintains both the international position (401-500) and the leadership at the Valencian level.

The ranking indicators mainly measure education (30%), which includes the relationship between students and PDI, doctorate degrees awarded and undergraduate degrees achieved, among others, where the UV advances the most (from 21.8 in 2020 to 24.1); and research (30%), which includes the number of academic articles per professor and research income, where the institution goes from 21.9 to 22.7.

In citations and research impact (also with a 30% weighting), the UV goes from 74.2 to 75.5. The indicators are completed by the international perspective (7.5%) and industry revenues (2.5% of the total), with advances from 48.2 to 49.6 and from 35.8 to 37.5, respectively.

At the Spanish level, this ranking is led by the Universities Pompeu Fabra, Autonomous of Barcelona and of Barcelona); at the European level by those of Oxford, Cambridge and Imperial College of London, and at the international level Oxford, California Institute of Technology and Harvard.
