The University of Valencia, third best in Spain in the Taiwan ranking of research

The University of Valencia has established itself as the third best in Spain for the sixth consecutive year in the National Taiwan University Ranking (NTU). In addition, it is the first Valencian one in all indicators and advances positions both at European and international level. By subject, the academic institution is among the five best in Spain in Agriculture (2nd) and Natural Sciences (2nd), Medicine (3rd) and Life Sciences (5th), and Social Sciences (5th).

The National Taiwan University Ranking (NTU) classifies 800 universities based on their performance attending scientific publications and citations, with the aim of showing the most outstanding universities in the world in research. The results appear in a world ranking of universities and also detailed in 6 fields of knowledge and 24 subjects.

In the Taiwan world ranking, the University of Valencia (UV) has improved 8 positions compared to 2018, to rank 207 in the world. At European level, it has advanced 4 positions, to be placed as the eighty third higher education centre. In the Spanish group, Valencia is the third best university for the sixth consecutive year, only exceeded this year by the University of Barcelona and the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona.

In the methodology of this ranking, 8 indicators are assessed on the number of articles and citations of each institution. Also, the research productivity (25%), the impact of research (35%) and excellence research (40%) of each academic centre.

In the classification by fields, the University of Valencia is among the five best in Spain in Agriculture (2nd) and Natural Sciences (2nd), where it has also advanced one position compared to the previous edition. It is also the third in Medicine and the fifth best valued in Life Sciences and Social Sciences. With respect to 2018 and in the international classification by fields, the UV has improved positions in five of the six areas, especially in Natural Sciences, in which it ranked as the 118 best university in the world, after having raised 18 positions upward in just one year.

In the classification by subjects, it stands out the 33 world position of the University of Valencia in Agricultural Sciences and 122 in Chemistry. In both, the Valencian centre is the first in Spain. In addition, the UV also stands out in Physics (it ranked one hundred and eighth in the world and second in Spain), Space Sciences (one hundred and twenty-second and fourth, respectively) and in Environment / Ecology, where it is also second in Spain.

In addition, the first Valencian academic institution appears classified for the first time in eight subjects, in seven of which it is placed in the top five of the national classification: Biology and Biochemistry, Clinical Medicine, Economics and Business, Microbiology, Psychiatry / Psychology, Sciences Social and Space Sciences.

On a global scale, the National Taiwan University Ranking is led by Harvard University, Stanford University and Johns Hopkins University. In Europe it is led by the universities of Oxford, College London and Cambridge.
