The CWTS Leiden Ranking measures scientific impact and collaboration, open access publication, and gender diversity from a ranking of universities selected by the number of publications indexed on the Web of Science over a four-year period. According to the June update, at the Spanish level, the University of Valencia (UV) is the fourth best in both the full and the fractional counts. 12,856 articles written by women have been measured in gender indicators, 13.34% more than in 2021

Scientific impact indicators for Leiden can be calculated using a full or fractional counting method. The first of them gives a full weight of one to each publication of a university and the fractional one weighs the relevance of the publications according to the number of collaborators of the institution. This year, the number of institutions has increased to 1,318, to 1,225 in 2021.

By fields of knowledge, the institution is first in Spain in Social Sciences and Humanities (fractional count), second in the same area in the full count, and in that same section, third in physical sciences and engineering.

Regarding indicators of scientific impact, the UV has increased the number of articles and has reached 13,029, regarding the 11,827 in 2021. Of these, 265 are in the top 1% of the most cited (6 more than in the previous edition and 51 more than in 2020) and 1,681 articles (208 more than in 2021) are among the 10% most cited.

With these data, in the full count the University of Valencia improves its position in Europe and in the world in number of publications. Thus, in the continent it gains seven positions and scale up to position 78, while on a global scale it is placed in position 225, six better than in 2021. As for the fractional count, the institution also gains four positions in Europe (from position 73 in 2021 to 69), and 5 in the world (from 253 to 248).

This ranking is led globally by Harvard University, the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Shanghai Jiao Tong University. In Europe, the top three are Oxford, the College of London and Cambridge, while in Spain the universities of Barcelona, the Complutense of Madrid, the Autonomous University of Barcelona and the one of Valencia lead the CWTS Leiden Ranking.
