The Times Higher Education World University Rankings (THE), which ranks the best universities in the world, in yesterday’s update has placed the University of Valencia in the sixth position in Spain, which improves the institution compared to last year, when it was in the 6-8 range. In addition, the Valencian campus is the first higher education institution of the Valencian Community and also advances at European level.
THE analyses research, citations, the international perspective, reputation and revenues derived from the industry of 1,396 universities, 138 more than in the same ranking last year. On a Spanish scale it is led by the Pompeu Fabra, Autonomous University of Barcelona, Barcelona, Navarra and Autonomous of Madrid universities.
Regarding the European classification, headed by the prestigious universities of Oxford, Cambridge and Imperial College of London, the University of Valencia is in the 195-240 range of universities, which has made progress with respect to the previous year (198-252). On an international scale, it maintains the 401-500 position it achieved in 2018, in a ranking led by the University of Oxford, the California Institute of Technology and the University of Cambridge.
By indicators, the Valencian academic institution has improved in almost all, especially in appointments. Thus, in this specific aspect, which analyses the impact of the research, it improves 2.8 points out of 100 compared to last year and stands at 70.8. In an international perspective (formed by the ratio of students and international staff, and collaboration in publications) the progress goes from 44.9 to 47 points.
In research, an indicator that includes the survey of research reputation, income from it and academic articles published by dedicated staff, the University of Valencia has moved from 19.6 to 20.8. The institution has also progressed, from 36.3 to 37 points, in industry revenues derived from the activity of the teaching and research staff.
The Higher Education World University Rankings, created in 2004, uses Elsevier-Scopus as a provider of bibliographic data.
