David Vallés Pérez, PhD student at the Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics, has received the second place (accésit) in the 'Jordi Porta i Jué' award by the Catalan Physical Society, within the framework of the 'Premis Sant Jordi 2021' from the Institut d'Estudis Catalans, to the best Master's Theses in Physics, developed in universities located at Catalan-speaking territories.

David Vallés Pérez (Albaida, 1997), graduated in Physics in 2019 from the University of Valencia and student during the last academic course in the Master in Advanced Physics, in the especialty of Astrophysics, at the same institution, has been awarded the second place (accésit) in the 58th edition of the ' Jordi Porta i Jué Award ', awarded by the Catalan Physics Society (SCF) within the framework of the' XC Sant Jordi Awards' of the Institut d'Estudis Catalans.
The 'Jordi Porta i Jué' award, introduced in the year 1962, is offered to Master's Thesis developed by students of universities of Catalan-speaking territories, and it aims to distinguish the scientific quality in works with a high content in Physics. The thesis by David Vallés Pérez, recipient of this edition's award, is entitled 'On the Accretion History of Galaxy Clusters', and was supervised by professors Susana Planelles Mira and Vicent Quilis Quilis, both members of this Department and the Observatori Astronòmic of this University. The defense took place on July 22nd, 2020, being given the maximum possible qualification by the committee. Last December, this thesis was also awarded the 'Xavier Gómez i Font' badge by the Servei de Política Lingüística, to the linguistic quality of Bachelor's and Master's theses written in English.
Results partially derived from this work have been recently published in the British journal Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, under the title "On the accretion history of galaxy clusters: temporal and spatial distribution" (doi:10.1093/mnras/staa3035). David Vallés Pérez is currently a PhD student at this institution, where he develops his PhD project under the supervision of Susana Planelles and Vicent Quilis, studying several hydrodynamic phenomena in galaxy clusters with high-resolution numerical simulations.
