The University of Valencia has been offering a doctoral programme in the field of evolutionary biology and biodiversity for over a decade, and one of the key elements of the programme has been the promotion of mobility of students to universities and research centres. Evidence of this is that during the last 5 years, students have made a total of 74 stays which totalise 223.5 months in 4 continents.
The vast majority of these stays have been possible thanks to the mobility programmes or convened by public administrations or agencies, including the university.
The Doctoral Programme in Biodiversity and Evolutionary Biology will continue facilitating and enhancing doctoral students to access to such programs. Likewise, in the context of existing collaborations of research teams involved in the programme or specific agreements that the programme establishes with other institutions, organizations or companies (regulated through the relevant partnership agreements), doctoral students stays in research centres or companies will be enhanced.
Within the regular monitoring and supervision of doctoral students, the Academic Committee of the Doctoral Programme (CAPD), together with the director or directors of the Doctoral Thesis, will analyse the possibility of stays by students at other universities or research centres.
Mobility stays for students enrolled in the programme will be managed with the help of their thesis director. The different mobility programmes will be announced through the students’ e-mail address, will be edited in the Virtual Classroom, and will be published in the notice board of the Department responsible for the doctoral programme.
The CAPD will establish a monitoring plan for a month or longer period doctoral students’ stays (whether under a specific mobility programme, or funded by other finalists funds) in universities and research centres outside the University of Valencia, as follows:
(a) Within a month of the beginning of the stay, the doctoral student will present the stay report to the CAPD which shall contain the host, goals and expected duration. Such report will be backed by the director (and supervisor, if applicable).
(b) The CAPD will be responsible for authorizing the stay, according to the Regulations for Postgraduate Studies of the University of Valencia.
(c) After the end of the stay, and within a period not exceeding two months, the doctoral student will prepare a report to be sent to the CAPD, which shall include a brief summary of the results and incidences, if necessary (e.g., extension or shortening of the initial length of the stay). Such report will be backed by the researcher responsible of the centre and the director (and supervisor, if applicable).
(d) The report shall be examined by the CAPD who, in case of giving a positive assessment, will include it in the Personalised Documents of activities for each doctoral student.
This activity is particularly related to the skills and competences CB15, CB16 and CA04.
