Flow cytometry

Flow cytometry is a technique that allows measuring and obtaining information about the optical characteristics of cells or particles in suspension when subjected to a laser light source.

This measurement is made on each individual particle based on the scattering of the frontal light (forward scatter), related to the cell size, the lateral dispersion 90 degrees (side scatter), related to the internal structure and to the cytoplasmic complexity, and to the fluorescence emission of particles illuminated by laser light.

Flow cytometry allows us to study the phenotypic characteristics of the cell populations, imnunophenotype, using fluorescent monoclonal antibodies and the functional characteristics using the different available fluorescent probes.

The flow cytometry is a fast system, being able to analyze thousands of cells / minute, and multiparameter, allowing the analysis of several cellular parameters simultaneously.
