FIT FORTHEM Workshop

On May 24, Tuesday, 9:15-10:15 CET / 10:15-11:15 EET the FIT FORTHEM will organize the workshop “On Brain Gain and Recruitment - Higher Education in Europe”.

The keynote speaker - Mr. Lewis Dijkstra, Head of the Economic analysis team in DG REGIO.B1 (Policy Development and Economic Analysis) will present the initiative that the Directorate-General for Regional and Urban Policy is currently developing within the topic: Education and training, Migration and asylum, Regional policy, Research and innovation: Brain drain – mitigating challenges associated with population decline (communication).*

Focusing the lens to the level of institutions, by listening to the presentation “Brain Circulation and Talent Grooming: a case of National Institute of Chemistry, Slovenia” we will follow the journey of Barbara Tišler (Head of Project Office) who will showcase the rational and targeted approach her institute developed to attract more ERC grantees. The internal ERC procedures have resulted in the number of grantees rising to 6 from the first grant awarded in 2017.

Afterwards the very grass-root level will introduce us to the experience of asoc. prof. Zigmunds Orlovskis (UL), who has studied in John Innes Centre: Norwich, Norfolk (GB), Cardiff University: Cardiff, South Glamorgan (GB) and University of Lausanne: Lausanne (CH), and reemigrated to take a position at the University of Latvia, contributing to the brain circulation we all seek to achieve in Europe.

The workshop will be concluded by a short discussion.
