The new premises of Clínica Jurídica per la Justicia Social (CJJS) were inaugurated last February 9th, with a seminar by professor Arturo Carrillo from George Washington University Law School. Carrillo is director of the International Human Rights Clinic of that university, and he gave some lectures along the week. The Universitat de València’s Institute of Human Rights (IDH) organizes the event.
The new CJJS’s premises, which have been provided by the programme VCL Campus d’Excel.lència, were inaugurated last February 9th, at 16:00, in the Facultat de Dret, room 5P10. María José Añón, Universitat de València’s general secretary, and Salvador Montesinos, Dean of the faculty, conducted the event. The seminar taught by professor Carrillo was titled ‘Derechos Humanos e Internet’ (human rights and internet).
Arturo Carrillo has also been a lecturer at the Columbia Law School. The International Human Rights Clinic he is head of is going to bring its first case to court next spring 2012.
The Universitat de València’s Clínica Jurídica per la Justícia Social is carrying out an “Amicus Curiae” for that case in collaboration with the master’s degree in Human Rights, Democracy and International Justice students. This ‘Amicus Curiae’ system refers to the actions done by third parties not involved in the case but collaborating with the judges. This system is merely used by international bodies in charge of human rights protection. The two seminars by Carrillo are aimed at the master’s degree students who have been working on this matter guided by lecturers José García Añón y Ruth Mestre. Professor Carrillo also gave a lecture on ‘La protección de derechos ante la Corte Interamericana de Derechos Humanos’ on February 8th, at 18:30, room 1P-12-13.
Clínica Jurídica per la Justícia Social (http://clinica-juridica.blogspot.com/) is a Facultat de dret’s inovative teaching project where supervised students deal with real cases and clients. This project has been included in the programme VCL Campus d’Excel.lència.
