Diego López Garrido, full university professor of Constitutional Law at the Universidad de Castilla-La Mancha and Secretary of State for the European Union between 2008 and 2011, presents his book ‘Paraísos fiscales. Veinte propuestas para acabar con la gran evasión’ (Tax evasion. Twenty proposals to end with the great evasion.)(Catarata, 2016). The presentation will take place tomorrow Thursday 14th September at the Cultural Centre La Nau of the Universitat de València at 19:30.

The event is organised by the Valencian Department of Transparency, Social Responsibility, Participation and Cooperation of the Valencian Government in the framework of the Fòrum Ètica Pública i Democràcia activities and by the Office of the Vice-Principal for Culture and Equity of the Universitat de València through the Escola Europea de Pensament Lluís Vives.

In this essay, the author considers the necessary measures to end with a system that turns the citizenship in the main victim. The book suggests a series of measures to end with the tools used for the tax evasion and that are present in the developed (and non-developed) societies of our planet.

‘The New York Times defines the tax evasion as the new global industry: ‘To enable an international elite that has become richer by corrupt or illegal means to hide its richness and businesses from taxis, inquiries and the public anger... It is an industry that is growing parallel to international finances’.

The entrance to the Aula Magna of La Nau is free but there is a limited number of places.

The following conferences will be the ones of Adolfo Plasencia and Jordi Palafox

The presentation of Diego López Garrido is the first activity of the Escola Europea de Pensament Lluís Vives of the Office of the Vice-Principal for Culture and Equity of the Universitat de València, which has organised two more book presentations soon at La Nau.
