
The journalist Ramón Lobo and the Full-University Professor of Social Anthropology at the University of Lleida Carles Feixa are some of the protagonists of the discussions at La Nau Cultural Centre this week. Both panel discussions will be held in the Aula Magna, at 19:00, and admission is free with limited capacity.
The journalist Ramón Lobo and the Full-University Professor of Telecommunications of the University of Valencia Antonio Alabau participate on Tuesday , the 28 January, at the panel discussion “The consequences of the conflict in Syria. The European Union and the situation of refugees”. This event is organized as part of a series on the conflict in Syria, organized by Amnesty International and has the support of Le Monde diplomatique.
Both Ramón Antonio Lobo as Antonio Alabau have extensive international experience. The journalist, who has worked inter alia in El País, El Heraldo de Aragón, BBC, Expansión, Cinco días or the Sun, has extensive international experience and has been reporting from the major conflicts on several occasions: Iraq, Bosnia- Herzegovina, Croatia, Serbia, Kosovo, Haiti, Afghanistan, Lebanon, Israel, Palestine, and in many African countries: Kenya, Rwanda, the two Congos, Equatorial Guinea, Guinea Conakry, Ethiopia, Sierra Leone, Uganda, Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Liberia, Niger, Mozambique, South Africa, Somalia ... Alabau is a visiting professor at several universities in the Middle East , including Damascus, or of Jounieh in Lebanon , advisor to the Ministry of Communications and Technology in Syria, residing in Damascus for several years.
The next day, Wednesday, 29 January also at 19:00, the Full-University Professor of Social Anthropology at the University of Lleida Carles Feixa and Honorary by Manizales (Colombia), will give a lecture entitled 'Youth, crisis and protest: from generation @ to generation # ' . The lecture, moderated by Antonio Ariño, Vice-Principal for Culture and Equality of the University of Valencia, will be broadcast live from MediaUni (http://mediauni/tv).
This event is part of the programming Claustre Obert, space for debate and reflection of the University of Valencia and the newspaper El País, and is organized in conjunction with the Youth Professionals Association of the Valencian Community.
Carles Feixa (Lleida, 1962) is Full-University Professor of Social Anthropology at the University of Lleida. Doctor from the University of Barcelona and Honorary by Manizales (Colombia), has been visiting professor in Rome, Mexico, Paris, California at Berkeley, Buenos Aires, Santiago de Chile and Newcastle. He is specialized in the study of youth cultures, conducting field research in Catalonia and Mexico. He has been interested in issues such as violence, city, sports, oral history, immigration, social movements and cyber cultures. His books include ‘De jóvenes, bandas y tribus’ (Barcelona, 1998 . 4th ed 2008), 'Jovens na America Latina' (São Paulo, 2004) and 'Global Youth ?' (& P. Nilan, London & New York, 2006). He is co-editor of the journal Young (London /Delhi) and member of the editorial board of Nueva Antropología (México), Revista Latinoamericana de Ciencias Sociales, Niñez y Juventud (Colombia), Mondi Migranti (Italia) y Analise Social (Portugal), entre otras.
He has been an advisor to youth policies UN committee and vice president of research of Sociology of Youth of the International Sociological Association.
Besides these two panel discussions in the Classroom Seminar (third floor) of the historic building continues the Debates Forum programming on the Department for Culture and Equality with two conferences this week, also at 19:00. On Tuesday 28, the conference on the occasion of the book ‘El golpe estético’ by Luis H. Errazuriz presented by Professor Ricard Huerta, and on Thursday 30, ‘La relación fe-ciencia los últimos cien años’, with Javier Monserrat Puchades, Jesuit and professor at the Autonomous University of Madrid.
