The Spanish community of High Energy Physics prepares for the next European Strategy for Particle Physics

Conference's poster.

The Institute for Corpuscular Physics (IFIC) organizes the 11th edition of Encuentro Internacional en Física Fundamental, which is a reference encounter in Spain of this kind. 150 researchers took part in the conference which started last Friday, May 25th, at Centro de Ciencias Pedro Pascual in Benasque, Huesca. This year, it is an important year for high energy physics due to the foreseen solving of the enigma of the Higgs boson existence and the creation of the discipline’s road map for next years.

The Centro de Ciencias Pedro Pascual in Benasque hosted from last May 25th to June the 2nd, the reference event in Spain for the discipline. The last results in high energy physics and astroparticle physics. This scientific meeting is celebrated in an important year, since it is foreseen for the end of 2012 the verification of the existence of Higgs boson. This meetin, is also a way to establish a unique Spanish position regarding the next new European strategy for particle physics, which is the road map beginning to be dealt next month in Poland and finishing in Brussels in the mid 2013.

The Spanish community for High Energy Physics organizes this international conference since 1973, so in its forty years of celebration the International Meeting on Fundamental Physics has become a scientific reference. On this occasion, the organization has been on IFIC, which is a joint centre attached to Universitat de València and the Higher Council for Scientific Research (CSIC). About 150 researchers are taking part of the event. Among them, Tatsuya Nakada, one of the directors of LHCb experiment of LHC and currently the person in charge of the creation process of the new European Strategy for Particles Physics.

This road map will define the scientific objectives of the discipline for the next five years, as well as the tolos needed to achieve them. An international meeting in Cracovia (Poland) next September will be used to beggin its drawing. The Benasque’s conference will be a starting point for the Spanish scientific community to prepare a joint view regarding the new European stragegy. The Centro Nacional de Física de Partículas, Astropartículas y Nuclear (CPAN), Project under the programme Consolider-Ingenio, is playing an important role since it promotes the coordinated participation of the Spanish scientific research groups in the great international projects. The new European Strategy for Particle Physics is forseen for mid 2013 and will be presented in Brussels.

This conference is also been used to present the last results on LHC and Tevatron and astroparticle physics and flavour physics.
