Biography

Dr. Abel Lucena is an Associate Professor in the Department of Applied Economics II at the Faculty of Economics, University of Valencia (UV). Prior to joining the UV, he served as an Associate Professor in the Department of Business Economics at the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB). He has been a fellow research visiting in the “Centre for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises”, at the University of Warwick, and a  research visiting at the “Heinz School of Public Policy and Management”, at the Carnegie Mellon University. Abel is an applied economist whose research examines how organizations create and capture value from technology markets, with a particular focus on the mechanisms that shape firms’ ability to appropriate the benefits of external knowledge and innovation.

His work has been published in leading journals such as Research Policy, Industrial and Corporate ChangeIndustry & Innovation, and Journal of Economic Behavior & Organization. He is also active in the field of behavioural economics, studying the impact of incentives on individual creativity and developing methods to elicit beliefs in sequential strategic games. He is an active member of the Decision Science Laboratory hosted by the UIB.

Abel’s research has been funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation and has been presented at numerous national and international conferences and workshops, including EARIE, DRUID, and the Academy of Management Meeting.
