Biography

Anthony Nuckols is an Assistant Professor in the Department of English and German Philology at the Universitat de València. He has a degree in English Studies from the UNED and in Hispanic Studies from the University of Virginia (Charlottesville, USA) and a PhD in Hispanic Studies from the University of Valencia (2020).

His predominant lines of research address literature written about the Spanish civil war, both in Spanish and English, historical memory, studies on memory and trauma and the relationship between these and literature in the contexts of the English-speaking countries, Spain and Latin America. Among his studies on memory and literature, the book Asumir la ausencia. Poética de duelos inconclusos en la narrativa española del s. XXI (Iberoamericana-Vervuert, 2020) stands out, as well as the study coordinated together with Luz C. SoutoRepercusiones internacionales sobre la guerra civil y el franquismo. Memorias empuñadas desde la periferia literaria (Peter Lang, 2023).

Currently he is a member of the Emerging Research project "Memory Novels LAB: Laboratorio Digital sobre Memoria Histórica Española" (GV/2021/183), financed by the Generalitat Valenciana and is the Coordinator of works in English of the project's database. He has also been a member of the research team of the project Prometeo 2016/133 "Max Aub and the confrontations of historical memory", coordinated by the Professor Joan Oleza.

In addition to teaching language and literature subjects in the English Studies Degree at the University of Valencia, he has also been a Visiting Professor in the Department of Translation and Communication at the Universitat Jaume I, where he has taught English language subjects and has tutored practicums in literary translation. He has also taught academic English courses for professors and researchers at the University of Valencia.
