Biography

Born in Sueca (Ribera Baixa) in 1968. He obtained a Degree in Chemistry from the University of Valencia (1991). He earned his PhD in Chemistry from the Universitat de València (1997), under the supervision of Profs. Antonio Cervilla Ávalos and Elisa Llópis Jover, supported by a grant from the Generalitat Valenciana. Between 1997 and 1999, he carried out a postdoctoral stay in Delft (Delft University of Technology, TUDelft, The Netherlands), in the research group of Prof. Roger A. Sheldon, funded by the Spanish Ministry of Education and Culture. From August 1999 to July 2000, he worked as a researcher at the CSIC (Spanish National Research Council), at the Instituto de Tecnología Química (ITQ) directed by Prof. Avelino Corma Canós. In December 2004, he joined the Instituto de Ciencia Molecular (ICMol), directed by Prof. Eugenio Coronado Miralles, within the Ramón y Cajal Program. Since March 2011, he has been Associate Professor (Profesor Titular de Universidad) in the area of Inorganic Chemistry, affiliated with the Departmento de Química Inorgánica at the Faculdad de Química (Universidad de Valencia).

 

Since 1993, he has taught university courses in various subjects of Inorganic Chemistry and General Chemistry in the degrees of Biological Sciences, Pharmacy, Food Science and Technology, and mainly in the Degree in Chemistry. More recently, he has taught in the Bachelor’s Degrees in Chemical Engineering, Industrial Electronic Engineering, Physics, and Chemistry, where he has supervised more than 10 Bachelor’s Thesis projects. He has also contributed to teaching in the Master’s Degree in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, supervising 7 Master’s Thesis projects, as well as in the Master’s Degree in Chemistry and the Master’s Degree in Chemical Engineering. He has been awarded five recognized five-year teaching periods (quinquenios).

 

His research began in the field of Bioinorganic Chemistry, with his doctoral thesis focused on the encapsulation of molybdenum compounds in LDHs (Layered Double Hydroxides) capable of mimicking molybdoenzymes. During his postdoctoral stages, he worked on the preparation of zeolites as catalysts in oxidation reactions, and on the study of the magnetic properties of metallic nanoparticles and LDHs. Currently, his research activity focuses on the synthesis of LDH-based photocatalysts, derived MMOs (Mixed Metal Oxides), and hybrid systems formed by LDHs or MMOs. He has participated in more than thirty regional (Prometeo), national, and European (Horizon 2020) research projects. The results of this work have led to the publication of more than 70 articles in international journals, most of them ranked in the first quartile (Q1). He regularly acts as a referee for journals such as Chemical Communications, Inorganic Chemistry, Journal of Environmental Chemical Engineering, among others. He is a member of the research group “Modulable Multifunctional Molecular Materials – M4,” directed by Prof. Carlos J. Gómez García. He has been awarded four recognized six-year research periods (sexenios).
