Biography

Dr. Artero is Full Professor of Genetics at the University of Valencia, where he obtained his PhD in Biochemistry. After six years of postdoctoral research on myogenesis at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York, he returned to Spain in 2002 under the Ramón y Cajal Program and joined the University of Valencia as a faculty member.

He heads the Human Translational Genomics Laboratory, whose research focuses on the molecular mechanisms and therapeutic development for rare neuromuscular diseases, including myotonic dystrophy and LGMDD2, as well as rare neurological cancers and genetic syndromes. His group combines patient-derived cells, mouse and Drosophila models, and multi-omics approaches to investigate disease mechanisms and evaluate novel therapeutic strategies. Current research also includes drug repurposing, oligonucleotide-based therapies, and innovative delivery platforms.

Dr. Artero has authored more than 93 peer-reviewed scientific publications, supervised 20 doctoral theses, and established extensive national and international research collaborations. He is an inventor on several patents and co-founder of the biotechnology spin-off ARTHEx Biotech.
