Belén Palma Ruano is a researcher in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Valencia and a member of the ARTEC research group within the Institute of Robotics and Information and Communication Technologies (IRTIC). She holds a degree in Multimedia Engineering (2020) and a Master's in Computers Graphics, Simulation and Virtual Reality (2021). She obtained her PhD in Computer Science from the University of Valencia (2025), with a thesis entitled ‘Contributions to the process of creating mixed reality applications for education and healthcare’.
Her research focuses on virtual reality, augmented reality, and real-time rendering techniques applied to complex data visualisation. She has worked on the development of hybrid rendering algorithms that enable the integration of volume and surface data for immersive environments, particularly in collaborative and inspection-based scenarios. Among the areas explored are medical imaging, scientific simulation, and engineering applications, where interactive exploration and visual flexibility are critical.
She is also involved in ChemiNova, a European Horizon project aimed at enhancing the preservation and understanding of cultural heritage through the use of extended reality technologies and advanced visual analytics. Her contributions focus on immersive visualisation techniques that facilitate the interpretation of multi-modal datasets in cultural and historical contexts.
She has participated in several national and international research projects in the field of immersive technologies, with particular emphasis on stereoscopic rendering, GPU-based compositing, and advanced user interfaces for data inspection. Her work aims to bridge technical efficiency with user-centred control, supporting adaptable and high-fidelity visualisation pipelines for professional use cases.
