Esteban Bérchez Castaño holds a degree in Classical Philology from the University of Valencia (2000), a Diploma of Advanced Studies (DEA) from the Complutense University of Madrid (2002), and a PhD in Classical Philology from the University of Barcelona with his dissertation, “Reality and Fiction of Ovid’s Exile in Tomis” (2008). He worked as a Latin teacher in some high schools in Valencia from 2006 to 2025, and was an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Philology, Translation and Communication at the University of Valencia (2018-2025), where he currently holds a position as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Classical Philology. In 2006 he enjoyed a three-month stay at the Università degli Studi di Firenze, in the Dipartamento di Scienze dell'Antichità.
She has participated in several projects: as an FPI scholar, she worked on the project Litterae Humaniores: Configuration, Canonization, and Enduring Latin Literature in European Letters II, directed by Prof. Dr. José Luis Vidal Pérez (2003-2006). Later, she was a member of the projects Scriptores Latini Minores (2015-2018), directed by Dr. José Luis Vidal Pérez, and Greco-Latin Proverbs and Their Continuity in European Languages (2015-2018), directed by Dr. Fernando García Romero. She currently collaborates on the Refranero Multilingüe as the contributor of Latin proverbs. The Refranero Multilingüe (ISBN: 978-84-692-5337-3) is an open access database since 2009, directed by Julia Sevilla Muñoz and Salud Jarilla Bravo (Complutense University of Madrid) and published on the website of the Cervantes Institute (https://cvc.cervantes.es/lengua/refranero).
His research encompasses education and grammar studies in Rome, poetic Ovidianism, Roman poetic genres, Latin proverbs, and the novel in Antiquity.
