JAVIER CALPE MARAVILLA (1966-), PhD in Physical Sciences from the University of Valencia. Extraordinary Bachelor's Degree Award. Associate Professor at the Department of Electronic Engineering of the University of Valencia as part of the Digital Signal Processing Group (GPDS) in which he developed various projects with public and private funding. He has been director of the Department. Researcher in 40 projects with private companies and 30 projects with public funding, most of them as principal investigator including a European project (SmartSpectra: Smart Multispectral System for Commercial Applications). He is co-author of 27 industrial patents and 14 more under evaluation, 96 articles in scientific publications (some of them among the most cited in their field) and 196 communications to congresses (4 of them awarded as 'best paper award'). He has supervised 9 doctoral theses. One of them, 'Cloud screening algorithm for MERIS and CHRIS multispectral sensors', presented by Luis Gómez Chova, was awarded the IEEE Best European PhD Thesis in the area of Remote Sensing in 2008. His main fields of work are the development of smart sensors, hyperspectral sensors, and the application of digital signal processing in medicine.
He received recognition as 'Teleco Honoris Causa' by the Official College of Telecommunications Engineers of the Valencian Community in 2019.
He has been the promoter of a spin-off and participated in several technology-based companies. Since September 2005 he has been responsible for the Analog Devices Development Center in Valencia, where 270 people work developing R+D activities in integrated circuit design projects and their applications. Since 2025 he is an ADI Fellow.
