Sergio Capella Castillo is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Social Work and Social Services at the University of Valencia, where he teaches in the Degree in Social Work. His career combines professional experience in the fields of social services and child protection with university teaching, applied research and knowledge transfer.
He has developed a significant part of his professional career in residential care resources within the child and adolescent protection system, with experience in socio-educational intervention, team coordination and centre management. This experience has shaped his academic work, which focuses on processes of social vulnerability, intervention with children, adolescents and young people, and public policies related to social services.
His research focuses particularly on the transition to adulthood of young people in and leaving care, youth emancipation, residential care, socio-educational intervention and the challenges facing the public social services system. He also works on ecosocial Social Work, the analysis of socio-environmental inequalities, community intervention and the role of social services in situations of crisis, emergency and territorial vulnerability.
He is the author and co-author of scientific publications in specialised journals and academic publishers, and has participated in conferences, research projects, knowledge transfer activities and teaching innovation initiatives related to Social Work and social services. He is currently involved in lines of work connected to social protection, vulnerable youth, community intervention, ecosocial Social Work and the improvement of public social services policies.
He also collaborates with research and knowledge transfer spaces aimed at strengthening the connection between the university, public administrations, social organisations and professional Social Work practice.
