Trajectòria docent i investigadora. Maria Josep Cuenca holds a PhD in Catalan Philology and works at Catalan Department of the University of Valencia (Spain) since 1987, where she is a Full Professor since 2006. Cuenca is a member of Institut Interuniversitari de Filologia Valenciana and'Institut d'Estudis Catalans. She has been visiting scholar in outstanding universities such as UCLA Berkeley, Stanford University, Cambridge University, KU Leuven and Università degli Studi di Venezia. Her research interests are at the interface between syntax and discourse analysis. Cuenca has made contributions to the fields of syntax, discourse analysis, and linguistics applied to language teaching and translation. She has participated in various competitive research projects in relation to metaphorization, contrastive analysis, pragmatics and discourse analysis. Among the most recent projects: Cohestil (Coherencia textual y estilos discursivos, FFI2008-01230/FILO, 2009-2011), Cohargument (Cohesión y argumentación en géneros conversacionales discursivos, FFI2011-25236, 2012-2015), and Grampint (Gramática, pragmática e interacción multimodal, FFI2014-56258-P, 2015-2019). She has been a member of the Steering Committee and director of the Training School of TextLink: Structuring Discourse in Multilingual Europe (European Union COST -Action IS 1312, 2014-2017; Head Researcher: Liesbeth Degand, Université de Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium). Dr Cuenca has published more than 120 contributions, including books, papers and chapters, dealing mainly with connectives, interjections, discourse markers, and demonstratives, from a grammatical and a discourse analysis perspective, as well as with more general topics on Catalan syntax, text grammar or grammaticalization. Some of her published books are: Sintaxi fonamental. Les categories gramaticals (Barcelona, Empúries. 1996), Introducción a la lingüística cognitiva, with Joseph Hilferty (Barcelona, Ariel, 1999), Comentario de textos: los mecanismos referenciales (Madrid, Arco Libros, 2000), Sintaxi catalana (Barcelona, EdiUOC, 2003), La connexió i els connectors (Vic, Eumo, 2006) and Gramática del texto (Arco/Libros, 2010). Cuenca publishes and is a reviewer in journals such as Journal of Pragmatics, Text & Talk, Meta, Languages in Contrast, Discourse Studies, Review of Cognitive Linguistics, Zeitschrift für Katalanistik, Estudis Romànics, Llengua i literatura, Caplletra, among others. She also regularly attends to conferences such as Annual Meeting of the Societas Linguistica Europaea, Cognitive Linguistics Conference, Congreso Internacional de la Asociación de Lingüística Cognitiva, International Pragmatics Conference, Foro de Lingüística del Discurso, Congreso Internacional de Lingüística General, in some of which she has been member of the scientific committee. She has presented more than 120 plenaries and communication to national and international conferences. Dr Cuenca is founding partner of the spin-off Tecnolingüística, S.L., where she is in charge of the coordination of the area of translation. She is also a translator mainly from English and Italian to Catalan and Spanish, among other transference activities Cuenca has been the director of the project Gramàtica Essencial de la Llengua Catalana at the Institut d'Estudis Catalans, which resulted in two grammars: Gramàtica Essencial de la Llengua Catalana (2018, geiec.iec.cat), a very innovative on-line grammar, and Gramàtica Bàsica i d'Ús de la Llengua Catalana (2019). Dr Cuenca was Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Research and PhD Studies between 2002 and 2007. In 2020 Cuenca was awarded with Creu de Sant Jordi, the highest distinction by the Generalitat de Catalunya for her contribution to the study of Catalan language..
