Biography

Vicent Cucarella Ramon is Assistant Professor at the Department of English and German at the University of València, Spain. He studied English Philology and obtained his PhD (2017) on African American literature. His research interests focus on U.S. and Canadian literature with a special emphasis on African American and African Canadian literatures as well as on the literature of the African Diaspora across the Black Atlantic. He has published articles in national and international journals, and also book chapters, on Black authors such as Zora Neale Hurston, Toni Morrison, Richard Wright, Jesmyn Ward, Wayde Compton or Esi Edugyan, among others. He is the author of the book Sacred Femininity and the Politics of Affect in African American Women's Fiction (2018) and has also authored the critical edition of the abolitionist volume against Canadian slavery The Refugee: Narrative of Fugitive Slaves in Canada (2021) by Benjamin Drew. He is member of the research project "(Un)Housing: Dwelling, Materiality and the Self in American Literature" (PID2020-115172GB-I00) of the Spanish Ministry MINECO, and takes part in the project "(Trans)Ethnic Literatures in a Global Context: Representations, Transformations and Resistance" (GC/2019/114) and is also a member of the groups "British and American Transatlantic Women Writers" (BATWoW, GIUV2013-083) and CULIVIAN (GIUV2020-486). He is also a member of the Teaching Innovation group NAPCED.
