Biography

I am a Ramón y Cajal Fellow (tenure-tracked investigator and professor) at the Departamento de Historia Moderna y Contemporánea of the Universitat de València. Previously, I have been a postdoctoral fellow of the Casa de Velázquez (2020-2021), the Madrid Institute for Advanced Study (2021-2022) y the FRS-FNRS (Belgium 2022-2024). I have carried out research or teaching fellowships at the New York University (2012), the École française de Rome (2014-2015), the University of Tampere (2023 and 2026), the Universidad de Granada (2024), the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (2024) and the Instituto Ravignani de la Universidad de Buenos Aires (2024).

I am an expert of the history of politics and death in the 19th century. My current research deals with martyrdom as a category of politics, with a major focus on Southern Europe (Spain and Italy) and an ampliation towards the transatlantic area.

During my academic career, I've been part of nine collective projects, regionally, nationally or internationally-funded, among which three projects I+D+i from the Spanish Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovación y Universidades and a PROMETEO one, granted by the Generalitat Valenciana. From 2023 to 2025, I was the Principal Investigator of the project AMAPOL- Aspects du MArtyre POLitique (Europe méridionale 1800-1939), which was part of Casa de Velázquez's scientific programmation.

Last published book: Les nouveaux martyrs XVIIIe-XXe siècle (París: Passés/Composés, 2024).
