He presented his undergraduate thesis at the University of Navarra in 1979, on "El parlar d'Agullent", directed by Professor Joan Veny, from the University of Barcelona, extraordinary Bachelor's Degree. Research fellow of the Ministry of Education and Science. PhD in 1981 in Hispanic Philology at the University of Valencia, thesis on "El lèxic d'Antoni Canals", supervised by Professor Manuel Sanchis Guarner, extraordinary doctorate award. Professor at the University of Valencia.
Professor of a large part of the Valencian philologists, he has obtained 5 research sections from the Ministry of Education and Science. 7 five-year teaching periods. Premi Faraudo de Sant Germain, 1989, from the Institut d'Estudis Catalans. He has supervised 24 doctoral theses.
He has co-directed the PATROM-Patronimia Romanica, a project of the IEC coordinated with other Romance languages, He has co-directed the I Mestratge de Toponímia (1990-91), the first in a European university. Deputy Director of the Altles Lingüístic de la Comunitat Valenciana (1990-1993). Director of the Postgrau d'Onomàstica of the UV 2010-11. Organizer of the XXVI International Congress of Linguistics and Romance Philology (2010). He has participated in 10 official research projects. Professor of Journalism from 1987 to 2000. He has published more than 400 articles in specialized journals such as RION, Dialectologia et Geolinguistica, Catalan Review, Estudis Romànics and BISO. He has edited more than 55 books, has given lectures and courses at universities such as Cambridge, Liverpool, Salzburg, Colònia, Naples, Rome, Amsterdam, Uppsala, Boston, Paris, Budapest, Prague, Valladolid, Madrid, Cáceres, Barcelona, Lleida, Palma de Mallorca, Salamanca, Saragossa, Navarra, Santiago, ...
