Biography

Ester Machancoses García is Associate Professor of Financial and Tax Law at the University of Valencia, Spain. She studied Law at the University of Valencia and worked on her PhD at the University of Harvard in Boston, Frei Universität in Berlin and at the Institute of Fiscal Studies in Madrid. She has been a doctor in tax law since 2001, where she was awarded with the Prize for Best Doctorate Student. Internationally, she has been a visitant professor at the International Bureau of Fiscal Documentation in Amsterdam. She has taught postgraduate sessions in several foreign universities. In particular, since 2012, she imparts some modules in the International Doctorate in Business and Tax Law, and in the master of banking law, of the University of San Carlos of Guatemala, which have taken place in Quetzaltenango (Guatemala), Guatemala, and Tegucigalpa (Honduras). Besides, she is currently teaching several master courses in international taxation in Spain.

She is an expert in the field of International and European Taxation. She has published several articles, books and book chapters in different journals both nationally and internationally and has participated as a guest speaker at various meetings, both scientific and educational. She is currently working on different lines of research that have the common goal of fighting international tax fraud and evasion: international Information Exchange between tax administrations, taxation of the platform economy, double taxation and anti-BEPS measures against aggressive tax planning by big corporations. All this, in the framework of three national research projects related to the digital economy and anti-BEPS measures (FRAUDISCOR, AICO, DIGISOST), and a European research project on collaborative economy and inequalities (Jean Monnet Network SHINE, Sharing Economy and Inequalities across Europe)

Regarding her academic management work, she has been the Coordinator of International Mobility Programs of the Degree in Law at the University of Valencia since 2009.
